Apprentice to Team Leader
How you can develop a long term career.
Meet Adam.
Adam began his apprenticeship in 2003 at Hull T.E.C learning about Engineering operations & sheet metal work/fabrication, completing his first full year 'in house' training before joining Eltherington on an apprentice placement in 2004.
Once starting at Eltherington he was introduced to the three main operations of the Architectural department which are Punch, Press, and Weld, whilst still attending college on a day release basis.
In 2008 he finished his time at college and left with the following qualifications.
- NVQ Level 2 (Technical Certificate in Engineering Operations)
- NVQ Level 3 (Welding Operations)
- Advanced Modern Apprenticeship (Hull T.E.C.)
Adam then became a fully qualified member of our team and spent the following years perfecting skills.
Over this time, he became a fully trained member of the Welding team, gaining experience as a T.I.G. welder, which is a very desirable skill to acquire given that Aluminium welding is renown across the industry as a difficult process to learn and something that we specialise in here at Eltherington.
These years were also used to develop his skills on sheet metal bending machines (Press Brakes) to a confident level where he was able to read and interpret engineering drawings as required to produce fabricated products.
Towards the end of this time frame, he became skilled on the Trumpf Punches which are generally a faster discipline to be fully trained in. Learning these machines placed him in a very useful position, which set him up for my next challenge in his career.
In 2015 he was given his first taste of responsibility. The skills that he had developed along the way put him in a good position for the role as the “Night Shift Team Leader”. Whilst still being a productive member of the team, he was tasked with leading a small team of 4/5. This was a very challenging time for him but something that he looks back to with no regrets.
The company has changed unrecognisably when we moved sites in 2018 to a new fabrication factory on our Hedon Road – Eltherington Business Park.
We had barely settled before we had to navigate our way through the Covid pandemic in 2020.
By this time, Adam had evolved into an experienced and committed member of the team and in recognition for all his hard work he was promoted to “Day Shift Team Leader” in 2022.
Recently Adam was part of a team that helped implement a new ERP system within the Architectural department and again showing his skills set has now moved into the Manufacturing production office as the company “Bill of Materials Co-Ordinator” where he is helping implement the new system to the full business using all the skills he has gained from the initial implementation.
Now approaching his 20th year with the company this year, there have been many challenges along the way which Adam has enjoyed, and he continues to strive for the next challenge and is looking forward to what the future holds for him within the company.
